Andy, just keep searching, follow any leads, even if they are old. You'll find your car. That is how I found my Goose, and remember even if the car is not for sale go and see it, who knows you may get lucky like me

Your story sort of reminds me of a cruise we did in 2009. Our friends from Montreal came to Ottawa for coffee in Little Italy, after coffee we went for a cruise down the airport parkway. Unbeknownst to us going the other way was a new owner. He had been looking of a Pantera for several years, had just bought one and to his amazement there on the other side of the median were 6 DeTomasos. He told me later his heart stopped for a few seconds.
