Reply to "I hate my distributor"

Some thoughts ....

Long ago I always used Standard Motor Products / Blue Streak parts. But they are very hard to find these days, and I'm not sure their catalog even has listings for older passenger car motors any longer. However I bet the Blue Streak listings for Ford Medium & Heavy Duty truck parts would still have the same high quality distributor caps & rotors (blue with brass terminals).

NAPA is still a good source as well.

Of course, a swap to a MSD/Accel/Mallory distributor would give you a sure bet for supply and quality of parts.

Any distributor with a magnetic trigger could be used to trigger a reliable Ford duraspark module, and Petronix manufactures a stand alone rpm limiter that can be used with the Duraspark module to give it that functionality.

In this day and age, the wisest thing to do is to upgrade to a Ford EDIS distributorless ignition. There is no distributor cap or rotor to ever replace again, and any parts that may be needed will be readily available for some time to come. This is not as difficult as it may sound.
