Reply to "Ignition Ballast Resistor???"

Meant to post this back when I moved this post!

I believe, and I am not 100% certain of this, but I believe that it is possible that DeTomaso simply put 12V coils in the cars that didn't have resistor wire from the ignition switch to the coil. OR, they simply may have connected +12V to the Ford coil and proceeded to cook the snot out of them....much like I did when I first started working to get my car running.

I cured this by simply using the Duraspark II coil which is made to tolerate a full +12V to the coil, when I installed my Ford electronic ignition system (DuraSpark II). I did wire in a bypass relay so that the coil gets a full +12V from the battery upon cranking, when the starter would tend to drag the voltage down.

Works like a champ!
