You can leave the stock switch in place and install a universal ignition switch into the console.

Transfer the wires from the harness to it.

I am pretty sure though that the electrical part of the original switch can be rebuilt.

What happens with it is the grease originally installed dries up and works like caulking.

The mechanical part of it is pretty hearty but can also stand to be greased as well.
