Reply to "ignition wiring"

This is the response from SOBill posted to the DeTomaso mailing list:

Dennis,

The Blue/Black wire connects to the Violet wire of the 8920 tach adapter and
feeds the Pantera tach input.

The Pink wire comes from the Run position of the ignition switch and
connects to the small red wire on the 8920 tach adapter and to the small red wire on
the MSD box. This wire powers the 8920 and switches the MSD box on.

The Pantera Red wire comes from the Start Position of the ignition switch
and connects to the left most small terminal of the starter solenoid on the
passenger side of the firewall. This wire energizes the starter solenoid when
the ignition switch is in the Start position.

The Light Blue wire is a faded Blue wire. This wire, which connected the
minus side of the ignition to coil to the OEM ignition points, will not be used
with the MSD box.

You may find that the engine will crank but not start until you release the
Ignition Switch from the Start to the Run position. If this is the case,
connect the orange wire which is on the right most small terminal of the starter
solenoid to the junction of the Blue wire and the two small Red MSD wires.
This will ensure that the MSD box and the 8920 are switched on when the engine
is being cranked. Some MSD installers have noted this problem, others have
not. Try it first without the Orange wire being connected.
