installation of new gauges

I just finished installing a complete set of autometer gauges. I read in a previous question that if the 'ignition' light bulb is pulled out of the tach that since it is a part of the alternator field circuit that disconecting the bulb socket causes the alternator not to charge. Is this true? How do I rectify this problem due to the addition of these new gauges? Should I plug the wiring harness of the tach and speedo back into their existing sockets and leave the wires hanging? The new gauges have new wiring. I haven't tackled the new wiring. Any suggestions? Dr. Alex
