Simply ground the bulb socket, whether the light is visible or not, and your alternator will work again. Taking the bulb out will open the alternator field circuit & cause no charging, too. Weird charging circuit wiring is a Lucas trademark- Triumph & other mid-60s motorcycles have the ignition ground hooked through the tail light circuit, so if the light filament breaks, the engine quits!
