Instead of cutting/rewelding, why not just use a piece of aeroquip hose. Exhaust systems have been using them for quite a while to tie the y pipe to the exhaust tube on FWD cars.

You need to do this on the undercarriage pipes and the connection to the tank anyway. Why not just put one more up on top?
