Reply to "Installing the connection rods to the crankshaft"

small block Ford engines, including the 351C, have narrower bore spacing than the small block Chevrolet. Due to this the "big ends" of 351C connecting rods are narrower (0.830") than the big ends of small block Chevys (0.940"). A 351C rod journal is 2.31" diameter and 1.66" wide, whereas a small block Chevy rod journal is 2.10" diameter and 1.88" wide.

It was once popular to off-set grind the 351C rod journals to 2.10" to achieve 3.70" stroke, and to then use 6" long Chevy rods which were modified by machining one side of the rod thinner so the Chevy rods would fit on the narrower 351C journal.

Could this be the case with your engine?
