Mike, re your oil film in the port, are you sure the valve stem seals are good? FWIW, stock 'seals' really aren't- they're neoprene umbrellas that ride up/down with the valve & let oil run down the valve stems, if one of the small drainback ports partially plugs up & allows oil levels to rise in the rocker covers. A high pressure or high vol oil pump will also cause this from pumping too much oil upstairs, as will long term valve guide wear. The stock rubber umbrellas also harden and disintegrate with time, eliminating what little 'sealing' they do.
When I rebuilt the 351-C, I installed all-teflon 'Perfect Circle' valve stem seals- now in their 20th year and no leakage.
