I think Pat Mical (patsauto.com) has a scoop that sits above the cockpit. The issue with the side intakes is that studies have shown that there is very little air flow within an inch or so of the body at this point. That's why the most effective intakes are the large "elephant ears" seen on some cars. (on Pat's home page the picture of the outside gas filler shows the "elephant ears").If you go the POCA site I believe they have some photos of various cars with intakes. I'll have to search through my pictures to find examples. As for the intake, someone (can't recall who) did a dyno test with various setups, one of which was the dog-bone air cleaner against other designs. The bottom line: no appreciable difference.
