inverted zf-2 leaks

i'm running an inverted zf-2 in ERA gt40. On the back is a cone shaped device on the lower left. It has a plug at the end of the cone. The plug now points down. before being inverted this would have pointed up. The plug has a hole in the center on the inside and a metal cap pressed into the center on the outside. The problem is it drips from the center. Can i just change this over to a solid plug and not create any problems?
