Reply to "Laser Jammer Anyone?"

Boss, really strange you should mention that.

Carrol Messenger, an old local mechanical and electrical "genius-type" passed away a few years back. I was talking about him, with a friend who used to do body work. Seems Carrol had brought in his car to have the front bumper replaced. Carrol told him that when they took off the old bumper there would be "a microwave" mounted up there as a radar jammer, and they should just remove it since it had quit working. The guy just checked in the car and told him 'sure'.

A few hours later, the guy actually working on the car came up front and asked him to come and look at what he'd found. My buddy told me that sure as hell, old Carrol had an unshielded magnetron tube mounted behind his bumper.

I believe a magnetron tube is just a lower powered klystron tube. So maybe your story isn't so far-fetched as it seems?
