Lights flickering

Dec 22,oo. Jack; I have a 73 Pantera which I have owned for 6 mos. A fellow Pantera owner suggested I replace the stock voltage regulator with a transistor model (JC Whitney) which would stop the ammeter gauge needle from flickering. Didn't seem to make much difference, however, I notice that all my lights flicker(dash/headlights etc. when they are on. Never noticed this before,do you thing its the voltage regulator,alternator?
