Linkage will not adjust.

I have been working on my shifter linkage for three months now. I have been extending and contracting u-joints, I have raised and lowered the trunion bearing, I have even put on a brand new trunion bearing. I have taken the turn buckle off and put it back on, I have tried everything. I can either get reverse, 1st and second, or all the other gears except reverse. Sometimes I can almost get reverse but the linkage acts like it is binding. I have removed the reverse light swithch so it is not a factor. When I can get reverse it the linkage hits the frame in the rearward gears (1st, 3rd, 5th) Does anyone else have any ideas???
