Hoping to get both feedback and suggestions on cold air intake. Currently run a 12 round KN max flo intake (side and top filter). That said, i get stuck in traffic in socal and the engine bay heats up, A LOT. Was wondering what folks think of this idea...
Run a dual 4" intake plenum off to one side. Passenger side. Then run two 4" flex tubes down that side of the engine bay, to the outside of the exhaust manifold. Then mount and attach two cone filters, that are shielded from what every radiating heat may be coming from the manifold. The cone filters would be about 10-14" off the ground, tucked close to the firewall and as close to the inside passenger side sheet metal. There is plenty of space there. The filters would what I would believe is coldish air, certainly probably colder than being stuck ontop of that heat monster... both when parked and when going fast.

Parts are fairly inexpensive, plenty of space to do this, especially with carbon can removed, seems like it would get good cool air... and no silly giant elephant ears.
Thoughts?

The factory cars did have an air induction that pulled off of the passenger side frame. It would be hard to say how much if any difference pulling a slightly cooler air source into the carb would make at idle. Are you trying to control water temperature with the colder air into the carb? As far as getting a better source of cool air into the engine at speed, you will gain something by your idea, but how much you will be able to measure is questionable. A fair amount of the air that comes back to the engine also goes through the radiator first. On a hot day that is going to be pretty hot.

I plan on building an air induction system for my car, however it will be ducted in from the outside of the car and away from any other heat source such as the radiator. The trick is going to be keeping the installation clean looking and not spoiling the looks of the car. I know about the air flow tests on the car and how air can flow out of the side windows when the glass is removed and the car is at speed.
