Reply to "looking to rebuild or replace ignition switch on my 74"

some times the starter only makes a klicking noise. If I go into the front trunk and jump awire across to where the old emergence start switch was the car cranks right over. Then I go back inside the car and turn key and the car starts right up. I think the problem must be in the switch. Was this switch in the front trunk also some tipe of relay?
