It is a DeTomaso.

It was never intended to be a Pebble Beach Concours 100 point car.

It was a high-volume (for such a car at that time) production automobile.

What you are seeing is likely just as it left the factory.

If it bothers you that much, I suppose you could remove the shims and have them chromed.
