You're mixing & matching parts here, so as Rocky said, try it. If the thing you are asking about is a square solid state e-coil and NOT a cylindrical can-of-oil coil, in my limited experience it works fine with a full 12v and acts as a rev limiter @ 4500 rpms w/around 9v. You won't damage anything- it just may not work well.
