Tom McDowell and I discussed this topic.

A great deal of the Italian car world considers when a car was first shown (usually in Turin) to be its "birth year".

We in the De Tomaso world have traditionally considered the year the car went on sale to the public to be its "birth year".

I left the decision regarding when to celebrate the Mangusta's 50th anniversary up to him. He obviously chose 1966, the year it was first shown in Turin, as the "birth year".

Perhaps its time we accept the conventions of the Italian car world. I promised Tom I'd support his decision. The important thing is to celebrate the Mangusta. I hope you'll join us.
