How long can I expect the hard red plastic portion of the line to hold out? Do these get replaced as a matter of course or do they just last forever?

Some folks have rebuilt the slave with success. Others wasted a lot of time and effort and finally spent the $150 for a stainless long throw slave.

I've seen that silly red line on many cars - it does seem to last forever, but since you can buy a bolt-in SS braided replacement for not too much $$$, I'd replace it when you had all the lines apart anyway.
