mechanical fuel pump

Hi All,
I am in the process of replacing my mechnical fuel pump on my 72 Pantera. I presume it is in the front of the motor, driver side, near the fire wall. Is this correct? What is the best way to get to it? From underneath or through the interior pass through access panel?
