Dennis if you get the gas I think you will be quite happy. There is a lot of difference in how nice they weld with the gas over the flux core.

The smallest wore most will run is ~.023. I have been using that almost exclusivly. If you find a steel shop and a chop saw you will find 1001 things to make!
