Minor Whine

I have had all kinds of cars and some have had whiney rear gears. The other day I was driving my Pantera and noticed a little whine when I lifted the throttle just a bit. It is silent under acceleration, and quiet during braking, just that one litle place of off throttle, foot just eased up of power.QUESTION..Is this typical? What elese could it be?
