Lacquer thinner will do the trick. Used to thin and remove expoxy glues. Great stuff to remove old paint, glues and misc crap. Strong and expensive. Runs about $10 a gal at any home depot store. Great for de-greasing metal prior to applying a gasket sealer. I use a gal for every engine rebuild to remove old sealers, de-grease surfaces, breaks down silicone sealers real quick.

I had to remove my old mirror so I know it works. Be careful were your get it (not on the body paint). Use a rag, wet the surface, scrape with razor and repeat.
