Reply to "Modular motor installation"

I haven't done this swap (happy with the torque of a 5.7 liter rather than the buzz of a 4.6) but I understand that the bellhousing & motormounts bolt up, so most of the adaption is splicing some kind of brainbox into your Pantera wiring to run the electronic ignition & injection. Plus some bodywork: both heads need the bellhousing ends of the casting band-sawed off to shorten them enough to clear the inner wheelwells. Even after this, the left head will need a welded pocket fabricated to contain the trimmed head. The exhaust will of course be totally custom, and the engines come with an integrated power steering pump which cannot be run dry, so when its removed, you'll need a custom idler pulley to substitute, plus a shortened serpentine belt. There are several Panteras in variour POCA chapters running this motor. A better alternative may be to add the DOHC heads to the modular SOHC 5.4 truck engine to make a much more torquey DOHC engine with more power stock.
