JWR,

As a newbie, perhaps you are not aware the Cleveland thermostat is NOT what all the other Ford small blocks use. Parts counters will often have just one number, and you'll be sold a Windsor unit instead of the proper Cleveland unit. They fit fine, but they do not function fine.

Are you sure you got a Cleveland unit?

Search the archives here for photos of the difference, or perhaps someone with them saved can repost them?
