MSD distributor question

I am running an MSD pro-billet distributor, (I think it is part number 8577) Anyway, while I am in the process of getting my carb rebuilt and intake and exhaust jet hot coated, I took out the distributor. When I removed the cap, it was full of corrosion (no the coolant from my earlier post didn't go there )

Anyway, I called the MSD tech support people and they will rebuild it for about 40% of the cost of a new one. Here is my question, the tech guy said I should drill four 1/4 inch holes in the cap below the level of the rotor and that I should make sure the vent hole on top is open and also drill another hole in the top. Said it would act as a "vortex" and draw air in from the bottom of the distributor cap and exhaust it out the top. Okay, really now the question, anyone ever heard of doing this?
