The schematics are not always accurate. They show that there should be two gray wires connected to that bulb, and you clearly have only one gray wire.

I still suspect that those paired wires connect to the buzzer relay shown in your pic. Was the buzzer working?

As for the larger pink wire, there should be a pink wire feeding the headlight switch that is always hot. Is that one account for?
