FWIW, I found out when working on my motorcycles that copper crush washers work-harden in use. To re-use them, heat them up (carefully!) with a torch to anneal the copper back to dead-soft. Otherwise, you'll likely break something getting old crush washers to seal again. Or replace with new ones-your choice.
