Also, I have a shop manual from 1974. It lists all then various engine codes.

.......The shop manuals, TSB's, everything Ford printed for servicing are still currently available from POCA and most of the vendors. You can even get them on a CD from POCA.

It calls out "R" for Boss 351. Was there ever, ever a 71 Pantera delivered to a mercury dealer with a Boss 351 engine.

........All the Ford Panteras came from Modena with engines installed. Early ones did have higher compression than later ones, but none of them were ever a 351 Boss build.
