2 inces should be enough travel. if the car has been sitting for a while, it is likley that the disc have frozen to the pressure plate and flywheel. I let mine get wet when I painted my trans bay and it only took a week to LOCK up. If your not getting disengaugement.... try rocking the car with it in gear. It may break the disc free. This did not work for me, so I started my car in gear, and drove the piss out of it. That busted the disc into 1000 of pieces, and when I tore it down, there were still pieces stuck to the plate! If your going to use the car... your gonna want these wear items to be fresh anyway. Bill 1362
