Reply to "NEW SIDE MOUNTS"

Are you worried about flex cracks here?

No, not really. While you can't tell from this photo, the new vertical portion extends all the way up to the horizontal plate; it has a semi-circle cut-out for the nut and washer.

This new design, with the anchoring bolt not totally in line with the steel upright, is gusseted where the earlier one was not. The first version was a full inch or more out of line, and was a simple L-shaped upright with no side gussets.

It took 35,000 miles for me to get concerned over the previous design. This one is better and if it needs attention in another 50,000 miles or so, I can deal with that. Wink

The side mount pieces were off-the-shelf units from a previous style he no longer is actively making. I suppose we could have modified them to my exact measurements, but my real issue was with the SS side mounts. Now those are bullet-proof and the uprights are much stronger to resist the torque force that was flexing the previous L-shaped uprights.
