One of the guys in Denmark actually has a glass back window in the rear deck lid. I had never seen that before and when I asked about it, he said that the previous owner (if I remember correctly) had it installed after experiencing the same thing as you - all the water running 'into/onto' the engine. I can however imagine it gets pretty hot in the engine bay.
