I took some dimensions of the pan. The main section of the pan is 2 3/4" below the raised rear of pan. The volume below this "shelf" I calculate as about 6.8 quarts. If the shelf just allows for rod clearance, then maybe the oil level shouldn't be any higher. I've attached a photo from the PIM website.
