I think this is an issue of my intake manifold being the culprit. I have a Rousch Single Plane A351 and noticed one for sale online which had been notched for just this reason. What I ended up doing was getting a cast 45 degree 1/4" street plumbing elbow, basically like the one below at the local hardware store for $2.17, going to see if that works.

I'll let you guys know how it works, and thanks for all the input.

John - I already went to two Schucks stores, CarQuest, and Napa in Burien/White Center area and they all stock the same sized model. At each one I told them it was for a 72 Mustang etc etc. One Schucks finally understood my problem, so we searched through their shelves in the back but couldn't find one with a smaller diameter housing with the same 1/4" connector. So I'm just going to use an adapter like the one I got and see if it clears now.
