Reply to "Oil Temperature"

This is normal and is NOT good! Oil coolers and other add-ons are necessary since the oil temp IN THE MAIN BEARINGS is at least 60-70 degrees hotter than that in the pan. Very close to the temperature where regular oil turns into char, and synthetic oil begins to distill into a vapor. I suggest you contact Fluidyne Corp about their water-to-oil cooler, which is about the size of your battery, can be placed in-line with the radiator water pipes anywhere in the car thats convenient and does cool the oil while only raising the water temp slightly. One GT-5 did this for the Nevada Silver State races & found a 25 degree reduction in oil temp with only a 5 degree rise in water temp at 150+mph. Of course, you need a good water radiator to start with. Roller rocker arms will also lower oil temps a bit by reducing friction against the valve stems, and synthetic oil is a must at these speeds & temps. Your ignition timing must be set correctly- advance over about 38 degrees or retard below about 15 will contribute to extra engine heat that gets into the oil.
