I finally got around to changing my oil. When I checked my stick before changing the oil, it was just at the level mark. I have a 10 Qt pan, and was supprised to find only about 6 qt came out. Then I put back in 6 Qt and it brought it where it was before on the stick. I couldn't understand, as I thought it would take 10 Qt. I thought there must be a second drain plug or something, and there was on the other side. So I emptied the oil again, but it was coming out clean (my new oil). I can't understand why my 10 Qt is only taking 6 Qt to fill to the level on the stick. I then measured my stick and it is 38 & 3/4" long, so I checked my L and the stick is only 38" long. I figure that since I have a 10 Qt pan that I should put in 10 Qt and mark on my stick where the 10 Qt mark is. Would that be correct? I hope I wasn't ruining anything running on 6 Qt in a 10 Qt pan.
