One thing to consider, the trim may have been scuffed pretty well in order to prep it for paint. I would remove one piece, remove the paint and see how much work is involved in polishing it back. There is/was a company in California I believe called Ano-Brite that specializes in the restoration of automobile trim. They did an absolutely fantastic job on my Cougar convertible several years ago (they weren't cheap). They primarily specialize in reanodizing aluminum, but you could ask them about restoring stainless. their phone # is 818-982-0997
