Besides the Ford re-registrations, quite a number of CA cars were privately re-registered in the '90s to the car's build-date rather than the first-sold date, in order to qualify for the rolling 20-year smog exemption that CA legislators had passed. These were all '73-built Panteras that had not sold until 1974.
