Reply to "Pantera registry owners...can you help?"

Long (long) ago Bill Van Ess manually compiled a manuscript to list, by VIN, DeTomaso automobiles. The book was published around 1991 or so. There was a reprint around 1993 (?). Naturally it is out-of-date.
In vegas one year I met Bill, and video-taped his photo album, one car at a time, for my own amusement.
Bill Milburn (in Texas) announced that he will update the registry. (With permission from Van Ess) (I believe Milburn compiled the Cobra registry, so he has experience.)
A data sheet regularily appears in the various POCA (and maybe PI) publications for owners to update (or add) the information on their car(s).
When the next revision will be made available is unknown. I've heard that it is about to become available... and I've heard that for maybe 7-8 years. (honest grin.)
I guess I should send in my update page soon, but without any news and no actual revision date I lost interest.

Various formats have been discussed, like a 3-ring binder to allow update pages to be easily added, versus a complete re-publication every 15-20 years.
Cars currently appear as a "one-liner", but there is a seperate section also in VIN order for details (a paragraph) if the info is provided.
When the update seemed to be a ways off still, I gave up and started to record my own notes on cars. I still collect web advertisements (eBay, car trader, PI, etc...) and now have several hundred cars.

There have been several attempts to make a registry available online. None contain the volume like the Van Ess book.

It is a monumental effort to assemble the data.
Being able to sell a copy for $20 now and then helps defray the cost of assembly, so maybe that is why it has not been computerized.

I considered having a section of my website to support a registry. There are some privacy issues that should be addressed, and other issues.

But nothing has changed during the passage of time, except that the information currently recorded ages and become outdated.

I still have an interest in supporting the result, a registry of DeTomaso automobiles.
