Reply to "Pantera specific intake manifold"

Korina,

I bought a brand new Edelbrock TorkerII for my '74. It says specifically in the Edelbrock catalog 'Not for use in a Pantera, it will not fit under the engine screen'. The carb mounting pad is 1/4" higher in the rear, so I took the manifold to a machine shop and asked them to 'take a little off the top'. They milled the carb mounting pad level. It was fast and inexpensive ($20 maybe). I used a Holley 750 vacuum secondary carb and a dropped base air cleaner with a 3" filter element. It all fits under the stock engine screen quite nicely.

Intake manifolds are cast with the carb mounting pad higher in the rear because engines do not sit level in traditional front engine/rear drive cars. They sit dropped slightly in the rear to achieve a more optimal pinion angle at the rear end.
