Rick, since the engine is disassembled and you seem stuck, how about reassembling the motor with the heads interchanged on the block? If you did and fired the thing on a stand and the same side of the motor gets hot, its a block issue, but if the same head gets hot on the other side of the block, its a head casting issue.
