My interest in cars, radio controlled aircraft, and other projects warranted a good place to work on them. This is the very reason I found land years ago a few miles from town. Before building the house I built a 40x88 barn (before finishing drive and before grass):

Within the barn I put up walls, put in a bathroom, insulated, drop ceiling, and central heat and air. Too many things to mention form here. Pole barns are not that much. Doing the rest of the work myself made the shop quite a place to work on cars. Makes it easy to tear down a project, walk away, and come back to it a week or two latter.

The shop is divided into a back storage area for tractor, lawn and garden type storage:

The center is basically the R/C airplane room which has since become more of a transition area:

My wife has a room just for her ceramics. This room was going to be my tool room with lathes, mills, saws, etc. It was a good trade off. I am glad to have her out there with me!

One room for basic car work:

One room basically for painting although I have been doing some work in it against my better judgment:

Of course the main garage for other cars:

The moral of the story, get a little bit away from the city. Buy some cheap land, build a pole barn. Put in a small bedroom and bathroom like we did. I used to spend weekends here and we would work on cars and other things. When we could finally afford the house we built the house out here. I don't miss living in town a bit! Wake up ever morning, quiet, watch the dear, the turkey even a skunk once in a while.
