I also love the popping and banging. My GT5 fitted with 180s will pop, bang and throw blue flame out the tail pipe which is an exciting show at night. I feel like a kid behind the wheel. However, I do not believe it is a lean condition in my case. I suspect that gaps in the 180s where the pipe slide together introduces air and ignites the residual fuel left over perhaps from scavenging.
My fuel mileage is lousy on the car and I have hesitated about leaning the mixture for fear that I would lose the flame throwing.
