Correct about the valve. Since the rack and pump should be matched but few are on a conversion such as the Pantera, a flow reducer valve is needed. Speedway Motors sells one specifically designed for the unholy street-rod combination of a Ford Pinto rack (needs 3 gpm) and a GM pump (puts out 4 gpm). When Gary Hall began doing a few conversions like this in the '80s and was unsatisfied with the results, I mentioned using a needle valve to find the flow rate that gave some power assist without over- or under-boosting. Remember you're dealing with up to 1000 psi, so use premium fittings!
