priming the oil pump

I just finished replacing the oil pan on my car with a 10 quart oil pan from Hall. The car sat for about a month and a half while I was doing a kitchen remodel. Is it safe for me to turn the motor over with the coil wire disconnected to get the oil circulating or do I need to remove the distributor and spin the pump that way?
