I have done a complete carburetor rebuild, and want to get the full benefit of it by checking the advance curve of the distributor. If I can do this in the car, that's great; if not, it can wait until I pull the motor next winter.

(I have rebuilt several motors, but never a small-block ford.)

Taking the distributor out isn't that bad. I had two different ones in and out of my engine several times last year. Have fun, after you do it once you will get the hang of it.
