Not exactly common practice and it may not have been Ford that was responsible. At least one other Pantera was treated similarly- the factory racing GT-4 #2342 has two 'factory' serial numbers, the change being officially acknowledged by the factory many years ago. That car is now known as 2824/2342 in some European racing records dating back to 1972. Your car may be more rare for this uncommon 'feature' than for being a pushbutton!
