Reply to "Question for my friends on the DTBB"

People of like interest like talking about things other then the interest. I have never seen a forum that didn't touch on controversial subjects from time to time. If all we talked about were cars we wouldn't be here. I think the fact that these "controversial subjects" didn't blow up is a testament to the people here. People oviously had oposing views but didn't want to step on toes.

My number one problem with forums is when subjects get deleted. I have seen a few forums where discussing anything but cars is prohibited and any thing else deleted. Their argument is it's a "private forum" not subject to free speech. While that is true there suddenly became no reason for me or many interesting and intelectual people to stay. The forum lost validity, remained "private" is without substance.

I understand when 2 people lock horns it gets ugly and has to be stopped.

My solution is to give it a little time, see where it goes. Often with civil adults it works itself out, everone learns something (even if they don't agree) and people move on. When it doesn't happen, and it begins to become ugly, simply say:

Ok, getting ugly topic locked!

But do not delete it. Deleting it rubs everyone the wrong way and is the quickest way to loose truely the best people.

People are not here "just for the cars". If that were true, many of us would not be here at all.
